Our Basic Science research ranges from cell cultures, to bioengineered skin models, to bovine models. We work with other members of the UM faculty as well as other doctors from around the world in order to enhance our research capabilities. Dr. Jie Li MD,Ph.D., a dermatologist and molecular biologist, Prof. Pat Mertz and Associate Prof. Steve Davis are frequent collaborators in our research.

Our available technologies include: cell cultures (keratinocytes, fibroblasts), bioengineered skin equivalents, PCR, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, dermatopathology, as well as immunohistochemistry. These techniques can be combined with our clinical trial technologies including optical profilometry and spectrophotometry.
